Grosse Pointe Theatre has been a community theater group serving the Grosse Pointes and greater Detroit community for over 70 years. Grosse Pointe Theatre offers five Main Stage productions each season, plus two Youth on Stage programs and one contemporary Purdon Studio Theatre show. Volunteer members work to put on the productions, building sets, designing and sewing costumes, handling props and much more. The mission of Grosse Pointe Theatre is to engage, enrich, educate and impact our community by continuing a tradition of exceptional theatrical experiences. The Helm Life Center, formerly SOC is a nonprofit organization that reaches out in many ways to help seniors from the Grosse Pointes and Harper Woods to maximize their independence. The Helm coordinates solutions to senior needs and concerns; operates a minor home repair service and meals on wheels program; offers lunch and activities four days a week and weekly trips; broadcasts a daily cable television program on channel 5; provides assistance with completing tax forms, flu vaccination programs, and transportation when PAATS is not an option. Pointe Area Assisted Transportation Services (PAATS)
If you are resident of Harper Woods or Grosse Pointes and are 60+ and/or disabled you can ride the Pointe Area Assisted Transportation Services (PAATS). To reserve a ride, a reservation is required at least 2 days in advance. All passengers riding on PAATS and returning after 3:00 pm must make a return appointment. All appointments must be made by 1:00 pm. PAATS will go to many medical facilities such as Henry Ford Hospital and St. John Macomb. Call 343.2580 for more details.
The city of Grosse Pointe Park gives free SMART bus tickets to seniors and individuals with disabilities living in Grosse Pointe Park. Eligible individuals can receive 40 tickets every two weeks. Tickets are given out at the Grosse Pointe Park City Hall, 15115 East Jefferson Avenue, Grosse Pointe Park. You must show ID verifying your residence. The funding for these tickets are generously provided through SMART. For more information contact City Hall at 313-822-6200.
